Patna, India - At least 16 people, including seven minor girls, drowned in six separate incidents in Bihar and Jharkhand states in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.
In Bihar, nine people drowned in four districts. In Saran district, eight people, including four children, drowned in a pond while taking a bath. In Muzaffarpur district, four people drowned in a river while trying to cross it. In Nalanda district, two girls drowned in a pond while immersing idols. In Munger district, a 14-year-old boy drowned in the Ganga River.
In Jharkhand, seven minor girls drowned in two districts. In Guridi district, four girls drowned in a pond while collecting soil for Karma puja. In Sahib Ganj district, three girls drowned in a river.
The deaths have come as a shock to the people of Bihar and Jharkhand and have raised concerns about the safety of people living in areas near water bodies.
The authorities have urged people to be careful while taking baths or crossing rivers and ponds, especially during the rainy season. The incidents have also highlighted the need for better safety measures at water bodies, such as lifeguards and warning signs.
