India slams Trudeau's charge of hand in Nijjar's killing

India has slammed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's charge that it may have had a hand in the killing of Sikh activist Ripudaman Singh Malik, calling it "absurd" and "baseless."

"The remarks by the Canadian Prime Minister are absurd and baseless. There is no link between the Indian government and the tragic killing of Ripudaman Singh Malik," said Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India.

Bagchi also said that India condemns all forms of violence and terrorism, and that it has a long history of cooperating with Canada on security issues.

Trudeau's comments came during a speech at a memorial service for Malik, who was shot and killed in Surrey, British Columbia on July 14, 2022. Malik was a prominent figure in the Sikh community and was involved in the fight for justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in India.

In his speech, Trudeau said that the Indian government had been "involved in many terrible, horrific things" and that it was "possible" that it had a hand in Malik's killing.

Trudeau's comments have been met with criticism from the Indian government, as well as from some members of the Sikh community in Canada.

The Indian government has said that it will take up the issue with the Canadian government through diplomatic channels.

Some members of the Sikh community in Canada have also criticized Trudeau's comments, saying that they were insensitive and that they could damage relations between Canada and India.

The killing of Ripudaman Singh Malik is a tragedy, and it is important to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, it is also important to be careful about making accusations against governments without evidence.
