Congress selected Kamlesh Thakur as its candidate for the Dehra bypoll against BJP's Hoshyar Singh. Kamlesh, an advocate for women's empowerment with a political science master's degree, has strong party connections. The by-elections followed the resignation of Hoshyar Singh and two other independent MLAs in March.
